Marylands gaming establishments experienced a prosperous period in September 2018, generating a substantial $143.8 million in revenue. This figure reflects a notable 6.9% surge in comparison to the corresponding month in the preceding year.
Among the six casinos operating within the state, four witnessed an uptick in their earnings. MGM National Harbor, renowned as the state’s top performer, amassed $54.4 million, marking a significant 10.3% leap from the previous year. Ocean Downs Casino, situated in Ocean City, recorded the most remarkable expansion, boasting a 13.9% increase and attaining earnings of $7.5 million.
Conversely, not all casinos shared in the overall success. Rocky Gap Casino Resort and Horseshoe Casino Baltimore both encountered a marginal decline in their revenue, experiencing dips of 1.3% and 1.6% respectively.
A considerable portion of the total revenue generated, amounting to $59.5 million, was allocated to public initiatives. This encompassed a substantial contribution of $44.6 million directed towards the Education Trust Fund. The remaining funds were utilized to bolster the horse racing sector and provide support to the communities where the casinos are situated.
