The British Columbia Gaming Commission (BCGC) has received global recognition for its leadership in ethical gaming practices. They’ve achieved the highest certification level from the World Lottery Association (WLA) for their Player Wellness initiative – marking their fifth consecutive victory. A key factor in this accomplishment is their groundbreaking player education program, which significantly impressed independent evaluators, who hailed it as a “model of excellence” for the sector. The evaluators were particularly struck by how BCGC customizes its strategy to engage various player demographics and its ambitious future goals. Marie-NoĆ«lle Savoie, BCGC’s Chief Compliance Officer, stated that this acknowledgment validates their player-focused approach and demonstrates the effectiveness of their dedication to ongoing enhancement. The BCGC Player Wellness program is a multifaceted endeavor encompassing research, personnel development, player protections, and stakeholder collaboration. This recent accomplishment elevates BCGC into an exclusive group of merely 13 lottery organizations in North America to attain this certification level.

Seeking accreditation, the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) emphasized various responsible gaming initiatives, such as its digital GameSense advisory platform, the proactive engagement mandates within the Game Break self-exclusion framework, and enhanced identification protocols at British Columbia gaming establishments. BCLC also noted the authorization of the GameSense trademark for utilization by other gaming entities.

The World Lottery Association (WLA) accreditation for BCLC will remain effective for a period of three years. This achievement follows the recent publication of BCLC’s yearly report, titled “Focused on what matters: BCLC Annual Report,” which showcases the organization’s 2022/23 achievements related to environmental, societal, and governance (ESG) objectives.

The document underscores BCLC’s dedication to responsible gaming practices, Indigenous reconciliation efforts, diversity, equity, inclusion, and environmental sustainability.

Separately, BCLC recently collaborated with Instant Win Gaming (IWG) to introduce the “Set for Life” game on its PlayNow.com platform.
