The Racing Post’s Cian Nugent, a member of the Spotlight Sports Group, has been designated the Betting and Gaming Council’s (BGC) latest Chair.
Replacing Clive Hawkswood, who has held the position since the group’s formation in 2019, Nugent will assume the role.
“As the policy and regulatory environment for betting and gaming undergoes a period of substantial transformation, I am thrilled to advocate for our sector,” Nugent remarked.
“Our primary objectives will encompass a focus on education, elevating standards, and participating in productive discussions with government and political figures.”
“The BGC plays a critical part in guaranteeing that patrons experience a secure, equitable, and accountable setting – and we aim to see those endeavors acknowledged in any updated regulatory structure for the industry.”
Hawkswood, who had previously alerted the Board of his plan to depart, encouraged the sector to embrace the UK’s reassessment of the Gambling Act (a reassessment the BGC completely endorses).
“In the Autumn, I notified the BGC Board of my decision to relinquish my role as Chair, as, considering my other obligations, I realized I would lack adequate time to commit to the position once the Government’s Gambling Review gained momentum,” he elaborated.
“We have utilized the interim to commence outlining BGC’s work agenda for the upcoming year in anticipation of the impending Review. I would like to express my gratitude to each and every BGC member for the incredible backing and aid they have provided me since its establishment.”
