Internet providers in Australia have been directed to restrict access to an expanded list of online gambling websites. The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) states these websites, with names such as Pokies Parlour and Ninja Spins, are in violation of Australian law.

According to the ACMA, over 400 websites have been added to a blacklist since the initiative to block such sites began. More than 160 websites have ceased providing services to Australians since the crackdown on illicit gambling platforms commenced in 2017.

The ACMA cautions Australians that a website’s appearance of legitimacy does not guarantee its legality. Australians who engage in gambling on unauthorized websites face the potential loss of their funds.

Rumors are circulating that a growing number of Australians are joining the online wagering scene. The increase is quite significant. In 2020, approximately 8% of the population engaged in internet betting, but current figures suggest that nearly 1 in 10 individuals in Australia are trying their luck online.
