Southampton’s soccer team is backing Safer Gambling Week by joining forces with Better Change for the second consecutive year. They will be setting up a temporary information booth for supporters on game day at St. Mary’s Stadium. This follows the successful introduction of the Safer Gambling initiative last season, where over 1,000 fans interacted with Better Change representatives.

Better Change will be present at the stadium and will be discussing responsible gambling with fans before the game against Cardiff City on December 2nd. Assistance will also be offered after the game, with the club supporting Better Change gambling therapists to provide online courses for those requiring extra help.

To encourage responsible betting practices and provide fans with useful advice and guidance, the club will also be sharing insights from high-performance psychology leader Malcolm Frame through a video during Safer Gambling Week 2023 (November 13-19), which will be distributed across the club’s platforms.

Charlie Boss, Chief Commercial Officer at Southampton Football Club, stated: “As a team, promoting safer gambling is our duty and part of our dedication to safeguarding our fans and the community.”

We are deeply thankful to our collaborators and organizations such as Better Change, who are diligently striving to construct a more secure future for our enthusiasts and the wagering industry, placing responsible gaming at the forefront.

Southampton Football Club has been a steadfast advocate for Safer Gambling Week, recently joining forces with club partner Sportsbet.io to conduct a Better Change Safer Gambling workshop for participants of the Saints Foundation’s ‘Saints by Your Side’ mental health support program.

David Richardson, Head of Strategic Partnerships at Better Change, stated: “It has been a delight working with Southampton Football Club for over a year now. They are a club that is proactive in utilizing their influence to promote social responsibility initiatives.

“We are actively involved and supporting the club and the community they serve by educating individuals about gambling and initiating an open dialogue about this frequently taboo subject. By dismantling the stigma, we aim to guide individuals in the appropriate direction who require further assistance and engage with fans about gambling, emphasizing how to wager safely from a positive gambling perspective.”

The club also persistently promotes the RecoverMe mobile application, which provides fans with mindfulness courses combined with cognitive behavioral therapy and other tools to ensure betting is secure and accountable.

The application is accessible for download on the Apple App Store or Google Play. Supporters of the Saints can acquire it at no cost by utilizing the code RECOVERME100.

This initiative is part of Southampton Football Club’s “Halo Effect” social responsibility program, which endeavors to establish a long-term, sustainable future for the club, its supporters, and the surrounding community.
